Perfect for beginners, this course introduces foundational hand-building techniques using pinch and slab methods. Over six weeks, students will create two functional ceramic pieces—one using the pinch pot technique and another using slab construction. Learn about clay properties, surface decoration, and basic glazing techniques. No prior experience is needed—just bring your creativity!

Classes are kept small to allow each student to receive individual attention. Each class is 2 hours long. This is a short intensive so it is imperative that attend all classes. There is one opportunity for a make-up per 6 week session. 

Details

  • Our Hand-building classes run for 6 weeks. 
  • Classes are from 10:00am-12:00pm
  • Saturday Class Dates are [May 3rd, May 10th, May 24th, June 7th, June 14th, and June 21st]
  • The location is at Sio Ceramics, 716 Monroe St NE, Studio 13, Washington, DC.
  •  Your fee includes all materials
  • ​clay, glazes, underglazes, and bisque and glaze firings are included.
  • Parking is available in the neighborhood or the parking garage on 8th and Monroe. Our metro stop is  Brookland-CUA (Red Line).

Cancellation Policies

  • Before Start Date: Students who withdraw at least one calendar week before the start date of the course will receive a full refund.
  • Within the First Week: Students who withdraw within the first week of the course will receive a 50% refund.
  • After the First Week: No refunds will be issued after the first week of the course.
